new auction beginning today at 7AM PST. this one benefits the American Red Cross, and I will make a matching donation up to $20 to LiveGirls! Theater, a project that my friend boobirdsfly is involved with:

"Our mission is to help develop and produce new works by women. We challenge the current under representation of women in theater by:

• Empowering women artists to be leaders and create their own opportunities;

• Providing the public with opportunities to see plays by women;

• Advocating for women playwrights and their work in the theater community;

• Celebrating women’s contributions to society;

• Creating exciting events that entertain our audiences, and provoke responses. "

I forgot to post my good deeds for the last couple of days. Yesterday I helped an older woman in a wheelchair get across Fordham road at a difficult intersection. (Who knew that helping an old lady cross a street actually was possible in real life, not just boy scout handbooks?) I felt kind of bad because it was obviously pretty hard for her to get around. And the day before that I picked up a couple of redeemable plastic bottles while dumpster diving and gave them to a guy who looked like he could use the spare change more than I could. Nothing really today, but maybe I'll get the chance to do something tomorrow.

[In a mood of... |contentcontent]

Hello! I've resolved to post my good deeds on LJ more often so I'll remember to keep doing them.

Today's deed: While waiting for the bus this evening, I realized I was going to be standing at the stop for a few minutes no matter what I did, and there was a garbage can about ten feet away from me. I spent the time picking up litter around the area of the bus stop and depositing it in the can. Ta-da! Ten minutes of work and now one section of sidewalk is that much cleaner.

Today's good deed
Prancing around today I had an opportunity to do a good deed, so I shoveled into my purse for some change that I might have (even though I myself need change all the time) and gave it up to some girlies on the street who were in obvious need of it. They had a dog with them and all...all bundled up. I sure do hope that the dog is well taken care. He/she looked healthy, so I presume everything is okay. I can't imagine anyone allowing a dog to starve to death. If it were me, all the money I'd make would go straight to the dog and I'd probably no longer be a chubby fairy.
Also, yesterday, I bought my love a rose (which I shortened quite a bit and put ferns around it) along with a cute teddy bear type thing that was red and black all over. It was fun to suprise her! She looks so beautiful when I surprise her like that!

Who knows what tomorrow's deed(s) will be! Who knows what tomorrow will bring. I'm ready though with my fairydust!

Giving Blood [Oct. 20th, 2004|09:06 pm]

I doubt that we'll ever see the day when a hospital tells you, "No, we don't need any blood today, but thanks for asking!" It's always in need, for everything from scheduled surgeries to emergencies. Just the other day, there was a 95 car pile up in Maryland - that's a lot of folks who may have needed blood.

So, if you qualify to give blood - think about doing it!

Penny Arcade & Children's Hospital [Oct. 18th, 2004|11:03 pm]

[Listening to... |Duncan Shiek - Barely Breathing]

Penny Arcade is doing it again this year!!

http://www.childsplaycharity.org/

Last year, gamers around the world pitched in and donated over $250,000 in cash and toys to the Seattle Children's Hospital.

This year Child's Play is expanding to help Children's Hospitals across the United States. Each star on the map below represents a Children's Hospital that needs your help. Selecting one will direct you to that particular hospitals Amazon wish list. Any items you purchase from that list will be delivered directly to the hospital you selected.

And this year, we've got FIVE hospitals participating:
Texas Childrens Hospital
San Diego Childrens Hospital
Childrens Hospital Oakland, CA
Seattle Childrens Hospital
and
Childrens National Medical Center here in DC!

Totally stoked that our Childrens Hospital gets to be a part of it. :-D

OK, I'll start. :) The Snuggles Project [Oct. 17th, 2004|02:09 pm]

pisceandreamer
One thing I am working on is The Snuggles Project. It is making small blankets (knitted, crocheted, quilted) for animal shelters - the thought behind it being, wouldn't it be nice for an animal who is alone, probably scared, and in a cage, to have something soft and snuggly to sleep on?

I've made up several of them so far, just have to finish them off (washing and weaving in the loose ends) and then I'll be taking them to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

Welcome [Oct. 17th, 2004|12:21 pm]
Just Do One Thing

pisceandreamer
This community was born from a desire to make more of a positive impact in my world, and knowing that hearing about others good works often inspires one to do more good of their own.

Please - share what you're up to. If it's with an organized group that has a web presence, do share links and it will be added to the memories section.

It can be pretty much anything - it does NOT have to be something large and over the top. From supporting a particular charitable organization in some way, a kindness shown to a friend or stranger, shopping at a local business that you want to thrive, really, just about anything goes, as long as it's good. Even better if it is something that makes someone else say, "Hey, maybe I should try that, too!"

Also - if you've got ideas for other keywords to add to the interests section, please share them! Sadly, I came up short when creating the user info page.

Again, welcome and share!
